The torch gingers are a group of gingers that are known for their tall lush dark green foliage and spectacular basal flowers. The foliage ranges from around 3 metres in height in full sun to 5 metres in more shaded areas. Fantastic as a screening plant and/or for creating a shaded walkway, the flowers come out of the ground and are generally around a metre in height creating wonderful splashes of colour on the dark green backdrop.
Torch gingers enjoy a warmer climate flowering and growing well all the way down to the Queensland/NSW border. As with most tropical plants, a nice thick layer of mulch around their base helps to keep their root system warm and aid with moisture retention. Colour ranges from pure white through to the red stemmed red torch where the underside of the foliage and new foliage stems are dark blood red and so are the flowers.

White Torch Ginger
Pure white basal flowers come up to around a metre tall against a backdrop of dark green foliage. Enjoys warmer climate - flowers well during its flowering season. Foliage height around 3m.

Porcelin Pink Torch
Delicate baby pink flower at around 1 metre in height. New foliage starts out with the same pink hue as the flowers changing to intense green in colour. Enjoys warmer climate - flowers well throughout the year. In the tropics there is never a time when it does not have at least one flower on it. Foliage height around 3m. but can get up to 5m in more shaded positions. Bud of this flower is often used in asian cooking

Candy Stripe Torch
Exciting dark pink edged baby pink flower at around 1 metre in height. Foliage is intense green in colour. Enjoys warmer climate - flowers well throughout the year having several flushes of flowers. Foliage height around 3m but can get up to 5m in more shaded positions

Dark Pink Torch
Dark pink flower with white edges at around 1 metre in height. This is the most common variety of torch ginger which produces flowers for most of the year. Foliage is a lush green colour. Enjoys warmer climates of Queensland. Foliage height around 3m but can get up to 5m in more shaded positions

Cup (Helani Tulip) Ginger
Unusual dark red flowers at around 1 metre in height. The flowers are cup shaped and do not open out as the torch gingers do. Foliage is dark lush green in colour.
