Hello Ginger!! - 30/11/2010 9:25pm
Isn't it the best thing when something you have been waiting for finally happens? We have been hanging out for a upright giant pink shell ginger to flower (alpinia Malaccensis). We could see the flower "buds" forming at the end of the stems but from the time they started forming till when the first flower finally opened seemed like forever!! Well all I can say is it was really worth it. Most shell gingers tend to be soft stemmed and hang down but this giant pink flower stays upright and when the flower is cut young, will hold well as a cut flower. This shell ginger is also quite tall and the leaves have a slight pink tinge and have fur on them similar to the orthotrica heliconias. This is a must for anyone who is passionate about their tropicals.
