Well we seem to have had the longest and coldest winter on record and even though it is now mid September we are still having a few cold nights. NEVER FEAR it is still time to start planting. WE are seeing some good new growth on all our heliconias and the rhizomes we put in just before the cooler months are really starting to shoot up a lot of new growth. The amount of rain we have had so early in the year and the unseasonally warm winter has meant flowering has been all over the place this year. Flowers that don't usually flower until late spring started flowering back in July and now our dwarf jamaican's, which normally only give us good flush of flowers in winter, have started flowering with all the rain! Our sexy oranges (Baker) have really decided to flush with dozens of flowers coming out on all clumps. We have had an unseasonally wet and warm winter this year and has been a little unpredictable as to whether everything is going to flower according to their normal flowering or flower at all for that matter! This is a great landscaping plant creating colour in a garden and with the spectacular pendant flowers. Read Article
